This tiger mask is made over a clay mold.
Making masks over a mold of modeling clay entails a bit more work in the beginning. But the possibilities are limitless because you can model whatever size and shape mask you would like to have.
Use non-hardening modeling clay with an oil base. Model a face, keeping the features simple and distinct. If you have trouble shaping the face, close your eyes and feel your own face. Which parts sink in? Which bump out? Hollow out the eyes and the ears. Build up the nose, forehead, cheeks, and chin. You can include hats, hair, or ears (as in the case of the tiger) in your model.
When the mask is dry, lift it off the clay model. Smooth the edges with a sharp knife. Color in the face with poster paints. Paint in the large areas first. Add fine lines and small spots of color last. To keep the paint from chipping, add a protective coat of sealer.
